Eleanor Joan Nasar died after a brief illness on June 20, 2021, at UBC Hospital. She lived 87 years and was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Nick. Eleanor was very proud of her 5 children: Daniel (Ramona), Sue (Dave), Katherine (Norm), John Paul, and Christine (John). Eleanor was a longtime member of Grandview Calvary Baptist Church and “adopted” many Regent College students, missionaries, and families. She kept Canada Post busy with all the letters and packages that she mailed. She loved sharing pictures, news clippings and jokes with all her children.
Eleanor was a stay-at-home mother for most of her life and was a master at making a dollar stretch. After the youngest kids were grown, she returned to the workforce and was employed at Haro Park Centre. With only a high school education (John Oliver Sr. Sec.) and her wages, she taught herself how to invest in the stock market. This allowed her to travel through Western Canada, USA, Barbados, Switzerland, and Germany with Nick. She was fearless and traveled solo to conferences in Banff, Hawaii, and Singapore. She achieved a lifelong goal of touring the Holy Land and was greatly blessed. She lived in the same East Vancouver home for 53 years and loved her neighbourhood.
A memorial service will be held at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, July 9, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy of Canada.
