MATTE, Dr. Edward Joseph - Died on Sept 8, 2019 at the age of 86 after a lengthy struggle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was predeceased by his parents, Edoige and Ida, by his brothers, Francis and Leo, and by his sisters, Blanche Knoedler and Ellen Long. He leaves behind his brother Louis (Rolande) and his brother Ted (Gabrielle) and his sister Dolores Turgeon and sister-in-law Emmy Matte, brothers-in-law, Dan and Bill McGuire.
Ed Leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, his sons, Leonard (Julie), Kevin (Elena) and Richard (Sandra) and daughter Lorna (Bill Hessels), fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. As a child of God, husband of Maureen and father of his children, Ed’s strong faith permeated everything he did in life. His strength and great attitude inspired others. Ed taught high school in Prince George, Vancouver and Kelowna before leaving with his family to study at the University of California, earned his doctorate and returned to B.C. in 1968 to teach in the French Dept. at UBC until he retired in 1993.
Ed was very involved in the Corpus Christi Parish with Marriage Preparation, inquiring classes, Courses in Apologetics, Choir, lecturing and training lectors. Special thanks to Dr. Williard Johnston and Vancouver Coastal Health South Community who have given so much love and care. Fr. Bruce-John Hamilton celebrated the Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Parish, 6350 Nanaimo St., Vancouver, B.C. on Friday, Sept. 20th at 10:30 a.m. The burial was at Gardens of Gethsemani, 15694 32nd Ave., Surrey, B.C. at 1:30 PM.
