GETTEL, Edward George, on Friday, August 21, 2020, at Laurel Place Hospice, Surrey, in his 93rd year, with his family by his side.  He is remembered with love by his wife, Irene (“Rene”); his son, Lorne (Susan); his brother Norman; his sister Elsie; his brother-in-law, Lloyd Simpson (Terry); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours.  He is predeceased by his brothers Ewald (“Ludwig”) and Johnny, his sister Frieda, his parents, John and Emma, and his sister-in-law, Joan Simpson Ingram Scott.  Ed’s life was one of independence, resourcefulness, and steadfast service to assist and better others.  He was invariably helpful and kind in countless ways to his immediate and extended family, and also to many others in different capacities over many decades.  All who knew him were fortunate to benefit from his support and friendship.  At his request, there will be no public service.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  Only if so desired, a donation may be made in Ed’s memory to the Vancouver Humane Society (www.vancouverhumanesociety.bc.ca or phone: 604 266 9744
