Edmée de Souza Leal, born in Castanhal, Brazil on October 20, 1931, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2024, at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC at the age of 92 surrounded by her adoring family.
She was the loving daughter of Antonio and Francisca, sister of Odette, Djalma, and Armando, and aunt and Godmother of Karla, all of whom now greet her in Heaven.
Edmée will be dearly missed by her children, Edna (Terry), Max (Elizabeth), and Desirée (Simon), her grandchildren, Matthew (Carol), Mitchell, Jennifer (Mark), Anthony, Brandon, and Tristan, her greatgrandchild Malcolm, as well as her niece and Godchild Claudia and niece Patricia, in addition to her extended family in Brazil and South Africa and her many dear friends around the world.
As a poet, writer, avid traveller and devoted mother and grandmother, she was a creative, kind, loving, wise, and brave woman, whose fierce independence and self-reliance inspired all. Hers will be an enduring legacy of service and sacrifice, resolve and resilience, loyalty and boundless love.
Edmée’s faith in God carried her and her family through hardship and loss into miraculous triumphs as she has never admitted defeat.
