Dr. Sixto Castelltort Tinio

DR. SIXTO CASTELLTORT TINIO passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the age of 88 in Vancouver, BC. He is predeceased (2013) by his wife Emma and will be lovingly remembered by his children Marilu (Val), Jun, Gerry, and Marissa (Chris); grandsons Jovy (Carmen), Justin, and Gabby; and great-grandchildren Avery and Lucas.

Sixto was born in Manila, Philippines. He followed in his father’s footsteps of becoming a doctor after graduating from the University of Santo Tomas, but eventually decided to become a businessman – in which he found success in the commercial fishing and residential construction industries. He married his wife Emma, on April 1, 1956, and began a family soon after. The family eventually immigrated to Vancouver in 1973, which has remained their home ever since.

Among his many hobbies, Sixto enjoyed cooking, travelling abroad (especially cruises and group tours), taking the motorhome out on road trips across the border, dancing the Tango and Cha Cha, and playing the organ. He was also immensely dedicated to God and his faith, a value that he instilled in his children and grandchildren.

For Sixto, family was everything. In his later years as the family grew, he enjoyed spending time with them through weekly Sunday lunches – with Dim Sum, White Spot, and buffets among his favorites. He always doted on his grandchildren, to whom he played the role of master magician, the encourager and cheerleader for all academic and professional successes, and a proud storyteller.

Vigil prayers will be heard on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 6:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Parish – 2881 Main Street, Vancouver BC. The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, July 29, 2021 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Parish, followed by interment at Capilano View Cemetery – 1490 Third Street, West Vancouver BC.
