Dr. John Patrick McConkey, known to friends as Pat, J.P., Doc, McConk, and the “Fun Police,” passed away on June 10, 2021, at the age of 76 years after a long battle with brain cancer.

A native of Exeter, UK, J.P. was raised in Vancouver, BC and was an Alumni and Clinical Professor of the UBC Department of Orthopaedics, Faculty of Medicine for over 30 years. He started his career in 1975 as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at St. Paul’s Hospital, and practiced at UBC Hospital from 1980 to 2012. J.P. completed his career as the first Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Squamish General Hospital in the late 1990s.

Pat is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christie, children, Mark, Bronwen, and P.J. (and their spouses Julia, Chris, and Jenn), and 6 granddaughters Taylor, Finley, Angelina, Taryn, Zoey, and Ndidi.

A Celebration of Living was held in September of 2018 when he was still able to party with his friends and family. There will be no additional memorial service. If desired, donations in memory of Pat can be made to the BC Cancer Agency.
