Dr. Isaac Wilfred Stoffman died in Vancouver General Hospital on April 4, the day before his 97th birthday.  Born in Winnipeg, he obtained his M.D. from University of Manitoba in 1939, practiced in several small Prairie towns, served in the army medical corps, married Freda Green of Winnipeg, and settled with her in Vancouver where he had a long career as a popular general practitioner in Kerrisdale.  He was always available to his patients by phone and made frequent house calls. After he turned 65 and VGH withdrew his admitting privileges, he led a celebrated class action suit by older doctors against the hospital. The case played a part in ultimately ending mandatory retirement.  After the death of Freda in 1963, he married Ruth Buckwold in 1969 and had 36 happy years with her before her death in 2005.  He is deeply missed by his children Daniel (Judy), Phyllis, and Larry (Connie Broatch); his step-children Marney Buckwold,  Ian Buckwold  (Mary Ellen) , Bruce Buckwold  (Tamara) and Patsy  Landa (Benny);  14 grandchildren (Nicole, Joshua,  Eli, Jacob, Zaria, Jessica, Laura, Talia, Adam, Ben, Aaron, Alvin, Alon, and Oren) and three great-grandchildren.  Cremation will take place. Donations to the Alzheimer Society, the New Israel Fund, or the Vancouver Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture would be appreciated.  A celebration of Isaac Stoffman’s life will be held on May 18 at 2 p.m., at the Peretz Centre, 6184 Ash Street, Vancouver.
