Doug passed away peacefully at Carlton Gardens Care Home, Burnaby, one month short of his 97th birthday.
Predeceased by his father Tommy, mother Susan, sister Mary/John Steeds and brother Bob/Jeanette. For 68 years Doug was devoted, caring and supportive husband to his wife May (Wilson) and to his beloved daughters Cathie and Jean (Don) Freitas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pearl Wilson and his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Doug was born in New Westminster in his grandparent’s house then lived in Burnaby with his parents until going into the army. Returning after the war he worked at Riverview Hospital as a cooks helper, advancing to cook. Eventually transferring to Marpole Corrections until retirement.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Carlton Gardens for the care given to Doug and their kind support to the family.
The service will be held on January 14, 2023, 1pm at Kearney Columbia-Bowell Chapel located at 219 6th Street New Westminster with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Fund.
