On February 12, 2017, with family at her side, our beautiful Mom passed away at Eagle Ridge Hospital. Dorothy, the youngest of 12 children, lived a life filled with loving family and friends and devoted much of her time toward the service of others. Predeceased by Herbert, her husband of 48 years, Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughters, sons and their spouses - Marilynn, Janice and Stephen, Bruce and Debby, and Michael and Camilla; grandchildren Meredith, Alistair, Marissa, Kimberley, Erin, Lindsay, and David; and 8 wonderful great-grandchildren. While raising her children, Mom gladly supported her husband in his career with American Motors which involved many moves across Canada. We fondly remember her ability to make each new city our home so that we always felt part of the community. In addition to being a Mom, Dorothy worked with Metropolitan Life as a Branch Manager until her retirement in 1986. During her career, Dorothy was widely recognized for her leadership abilities and commitment to the professional development of her staff. Dorothy was actively involved in her church as a member of the Catholic Women’s League and the 55+ Group and participated in many charitable functions. She was also active in the Liberal Party and volunteered at the Dogwood Pavilion in Coquitlam, BC. As a result, she formed many diverse and lasting friendships over the years. Despite her busy life, Mom loved to entertain, participate in social events and go on wonderful adventures with her family and friends. She was loved by many because of her kindness, honesty and wisdom. But most of all, Mom was known for her deep Catholic faith and love of others. We thank her for being a great Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. We extend sincere thanks to Dr. Kathleen Ross for supporting Mom over the years and thank the staff of West 2B at Eagle Ridge Hospital, who ensured Mom’s comfort at the end of her life. Your care and support meant the world to our family. A Prayer Service for Dorothy will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 7pm and a Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, February 21 at 11am. A reception will follow the Mass. The services will be held at St Clare of Assisi Church, 1320 Johnson Street, Coquitlam, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, Port Moody, BC, will be gratefully accepted.
