It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our mother Dorene Elizabeth Hodgson on June 29, 2021, just shortly after her 94th birthday, in Vancouver BC.

Dorene was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on June 14, 1927, and moved to Vancouver in 1947 with her mother, Mary Catherine Polowy in 1947.

Dorene is survived by her daughter, Christine Newell, and son, James Turner, two wonderful grandchildren, Roy Turner and Adina Turner (Chris Fahr), and one sweet great grandchild, Texas Mackie-Turner.

She has three surviving nieces, Patricia Phillips and Teresa Pidskalny who live in Manitoba, and Lynn Robinson who resides in Ontario.

Dorene worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several established businesses in Vancouver and retired in 1985.

She adored the arts, music, and nature. She sang in choirs throughout her life, including the Vancouver Bach Choir. She enjoyed her local talk and classical music radio programs and personalities. Dorene was very active - ice skating till she was 88 years old and walking the local gardens and parks she loved.

Dorene was an active donor to many charities and wished for those who would like to celebrate Her Life to give Memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
