It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and loving wife to Ray. Doreen's heart stopped at the end of the Canucks/Rangers hockey game last Thursday. Through the valiant efforts of the first responders, a pulse was found and she subsequently was cared for in the CIU at Royal Columbian Hospital. Unfortunately she passed away in the morning of January 17th with her family beside her. Doreen was born in Winnipeg to Bertram and Lillian Beare, where she grew up during difficult times in pre WWII Canada and was predeceased by her parents and first husband Ray Davies. With Ray's passing she moved to Vancouver with her three children where she subsequently met a family friend and Vancouver Police Officer, Raymond McNeney. They married in 1962 and Ray became the adoptive father of Doreen's children. In 1964 a son was born to round out the family. Doreen is lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 1/2 years, Ray, daughter Terry (Bill), sons Tom (Debra), Ted, Mike (Mary-Anne), grand-daughters Kate (David), Caillee, great-grandson Finnegan, brothers Ted, Tom (Ann), Jack (Maureen), and nieces and nephews. Doreen loved life, her family, golfing (a former long time member of the Mylora Ladies Golf Club), winters in California and the community of her church. Her ashes will be committed to the Memorial Garden of The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Sapperton (121 East Columbia St., New Westminster) after a memorial service at St. Mary's on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1 pm, the Rev. Georgina Harris officiating. The family gives a heartfelt thank you to the first responders of the New Westminster Fire Service, the BC Ambulance Service, and the doctors and nurses of the ICU at the Royal Columbian Hospital for their kindness and sense of dignity they provided during Doreen's final journey to be with her God. In lieu of flowers a donation to the St. Mary's Restoration Fund would be appreciated.
