Kenmuir, Doreen Hope
February 3, 1922 – April 19, 2018
After a long and rewarding life of service to others, Doreen passed away peacefully at Finnish Manor, Burnaby. She was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Emma (Cook) Kenmuir and her sister Florence Roberts. Doreen is survived by her nieces Margaret (Daniel) and Charlotte, nephews Richard (Barbara) and David (Nadine), and descendants of Stephen and Jane Cook of Alert Bay. Doreen had a distinguished 45-year career as a teacher, principal and school administrator, chiefly in New Westminster and Coquitlam. In 1995 Doreen was awarded the Caring Canadian Award by Governor Romeo Le Blanc for her community work, principally as a pastoral care volunteer, visiting patients almost daily for over 20 years at Royal Columbian Hospital and other care facilities. In 2009 Doreen received the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster in recognition from the Anglican Church of Canada for her pastoral work and support of St. Mary’s Church, Sapperton. We would like to thank all the staff at Finnish Manor who made Doreen feel at home over the last 3 ½ years and particularly to the kind and caring staff who responded to Doreen’s every need and made her comfortable during her final days. A special thank you to Terri for her never-ending friendship and for looking after Doreen in so many wonderful ways. A service of celebration will be held for Doreen Wednesday May 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Sapperton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of St. Mary’s Church, Sapperton, 121 E. Columbia St., New Westminster, BC V3L 3V7
