MACQUARRIE, DONALD KELLIE, CD (Retired)

A rich and varied Military career lead to a fulfilling retirement, and a peaceful passing at age 94.

DON was a highly decorated Officer with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.  His military career began in Revelstoke in 1937 as a Rocky Mountain Ranger.
During the War, he was a CANLOAN Officer with The Scots Fusiliers.   He served postwar at bases throughout Canada, with NATO forces in Europe and on extended Peacekeeping Missions with the United Nations in the Middle East and in Cyprus.  When his active service ended in 1967, he served as Commandant at Vernon’s Cadet Camp for a further twelve years.

Dad was a quiet, caring father, a “man of few words” who was admired and respected by all who knew him.  He shared his appreciation of nature with  fishing and camping adventures, with weekend drives, and epic long trips across the country to visit family. Walking was a daily routine that helped him maintain his independence.  His culinary skills were legendary in our extended family, his recipes treasured by us all.  With the passing of his beloved Grace in 2004, his passion for reading was endless, his mind clear and analytical to his last days.

Predeceased also by his parents Mary Ellen and James, his brothers Roy and Gordon and his sister Dorothy and daughter in law Sandra. Survived by his children Donald, Patricia (John), David (Yvonne), Douglas (Roberta), his sister Muriel, grandchildren and great grandchildren he will be sadly missed.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be had at a later date for this Old Soldier, a very fine and honourable man.
