He was a well-liked and respected professor, colleague, expert, and friend and was committed to the community. He served on the Board of the United Way in Vancouver for several years and was the President for two terms. He regularly assisted at his local parish. He was a founding member of the International Society of Family Law, was the Managing Editor of the Canadian Journal of Family Law, and served on boards for numerous legal societies, journals and publications. He took Emeritus status in 1999 to spend more time with his family but continued to teach at the Faculty of Law for many more years.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish at 3778 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., Fr. Paul, Celebrant. https://www.donate.startanevolution.ca/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1730&ea.campaign.id=12454
To direct gifts to Law, in the section marked “Direct My Gift” donors should tick the box beside “To a project in a Faculty, School or Campus Area” and then choose the Campus as “UBC Vancouver” “Faculty of Law” and then the Fund as “M090 – Dean of Law Fund”. As the formal donation fund in Professor MacDougall's name is not yet set up, we can use the Dean’s Fund to hold any online donations until we do. There is a section on the online giving page marked “In Memoriam / In Honour / In Celebration” where people can note Prof. MacDougall's name so that we know where the donors gift should be directed to.
