It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Don Barrett at Irene Thomas Hospice, Delta BC on Monday August 17, 2020. Dad was born in East York Ontario, June 10, 1929.

Don is survived by his daughters Elaine and Betty (Bob), grandchildren Erik, Sarah (Tyler) and Hanna (Colman), great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Irie and Brody, and extended family in North Vancouver, 100 Mile House and Northern Alberta. Don was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his wife Bjorghild in 2018.

Don travelled by train with his parents to the West Coast in 1945 settling in Deep Cove, BC. Don worked various jobs in his younger years – truck driver for Deeks McBride and 40 years with Lafarge Cement where he delivered cement at many lower mainland sites – UBC, SFU and the Vancouver Law Courts to name a few, ending his career as a crane operator and finally dispatch operator.

Don loved puttering in his workshop and was a jack of all trades. As well as he could fix anything in the house, he was also an amazing cook sharing his love of food with family and friends. Dad’s favorite spot to travel to was the Oregon Coast with Mom, taking the grandkids for one of many walks at Spanish Banks or fishing, and of course of trips to northern Alberta to visit family every summer was a favourite. We all have good memories of road trips, camping, fishing, and many games of cribbage at the trailer.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude Dr. Peter Lutsky, Dr. Barry Kassen, Delta Hospital, Augustine House and Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner, BC.
