Dina Segunda Reyes, known as Nanang, passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2023 at the age of 103. Dina was born into a family of 9 in San Sebastian, Philippines.
She and her loving husband Dimas, raised 13 children: Aida, Fely, Cora, Trin, Bert, Chit, Imelda, Marissa, Gigi, Nelson, Bobby, John, and Ed. They were beloved and revered members of their community in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, having owned and operated a successful family restaurant for many years before embarking on a new chapter and relocating their family to Canada in 1979.
Dina found joy in her love for animals (particularly those without homes), cooking her favorite meals, watching boxing matches, smoking cigars backwards, and being surrounded by friends and family who adored her. She is remembered for her fearless and tenacious spirit, her famous BBQ skewers, her striking beauty both inside and out, and above all, her gentle, nurturing heart especially toward her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dina is survived by her children Trin, Bert, Chit, Imelda, Marissa, Gigi, Nelson, Bobby, John, her 26 grandchildren and 22 great grandkids.
Public visitation will be held at Kearney Funeral Services-Columbia-Bowell Chapel in New Westminster (219 6th Street, New Westminster, BC, V3L 3A3) on November 8 from 5:30-8pm. Food and refreshments will be served.
A funeral mass on November 9 at St. Mary’s Parish (5251 Joyce St, Vancouver, BC V5R 4G8) in Vancouver will begin at 11am followed by burial at the Ocean View Cemetery (4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC V5J 1A4) in Burnaby.
