It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nell; their five sons: Terry, Paul, Rick, Rob and Michael; daughters-in-law: Lori, Coral, Terri, Angie and Larissa; grandchildren: Krista, Cheryl, Julie, Beverly, Sarah, Douglas, Stephen, Elizabeth, Theo, David, Ethan and Joshua; as well as family in both Holland and Edmonton. Dick was born in Zwolle, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his best friend. His fiancé joined him a year later and they were married soon after. He lived in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg before settling in Vancouver where he finished his career as a baking instructor at Vancouver Community College. He will be sadly missed and remembered forever as an unselfish, caring man. Opa had a wonderful sense of humour and a mischievous smile that matched the glint in his eye. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimers Society of Canada or Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation. A prayer service will be held on Monday, July 19th at 7pm and a funeral service will take place Tuesday July 20th at 11am. Both services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, 140 Moody St., in Port Moody. A reception will follow the funeral. “Give my love to the family.”
