It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis in his 98th year. He was predeceased by his brother Eric, sister Eileen, and by his daughter Vanessa (Jim). He is survived by his loving wife Josie, son Martin, daughter Caroline, stepchildren Richard and Karen, grandchildren Stephanie, Adam, Sheila, Emily and Julia, step-grandchildren Devin and Griffin, and nephews David, Richard and Kevin and their families in the U.K.
Dennis was born in Whitley Bay, Northumberland, and became an electrical engineer. He emigrated with his family to Toronto in 1953, eventually moving to Vancouver where he became a fixture in his beloved Kitsilano neighbourhood. He loved to travel and enjoyed many camping trips to the U.S. and Mexico, and with wife Josie travelled several times to Hawaii. Dennis was for many years a member of the Billy Bishop branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He loved dogs and was a Life Member of the Vancouver chapter of the SPCA, from which he adopted all but one of the five dogs with whom he shared his life over the years.
Dennis became a resident of Purdy Pavilion at UBC Hospital in April 2019, where he died in the early morning of Dec. 23rd. We wish to thank the doctors and staff of the fourth floor of Purdy Pavilion for their excellent care of Dennis. An open house to celebrate his life will be held on Sun., Feb. 2, 2020 at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House from 2 to 4 p.m.
