David's abundant talent and interests took him in all directions, sometimes simultaneously.  His energy was legendary, his inspiration pivotal in social, political and spiritual movements on Haida Gwaii in the past 40 years.
In 5 minutes he could transform a room or a garden into a stylish, gracious, welcoming space.  He was known for preparing fabulous food, and nourishing the exchange of ideas along with the sensual pleasure of the feast.
He is survived by his mother, Peggy Phillips of Dufferin Oaks, Ontario, and cousin Lynda Pace and her daughter Marcy Baldry, son, Mark Major and his wife, Laurie, Cousins: Bob Fowler and his wife Jane, Arlene Twinney, Randy Wyatt and Rick Wyatt, his adopted Haida family Roberta and Naanii Mary Swanson of the Yahgulaanas clan, his faithful cat Yoda, and innumerable friends amazed by the force of his intellect and personality.  His influence will long be felt.
