It is with great sadness we share the news of the sudden passing of Dave. We are thankful for all the years we were privileged to be lifted by his laughter, warmed by his empathy and lovingly accepted exactly as we are.
Profoundly missed by his partner Jen, mom Jane, aunt Pat, uncle John, cousins Jane Anne and David, plus family in-law Chris, Cecilie and Karin and countless friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his father Terry and step-father Ralph.
David received his law degree from UBC and was called to the bar in 1998. David articled and was an associate with Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang and then Ogilvy Renault, where he formed lasting friendships. As legal counsel to the Labour Relations Board of BC from 2000 to 2018, he disguised his keen legal mind behind a humble demeanour. He was integral to the life of the Board and was a colleague and friend to everyone there. As its representative in court, David was always congenial and invariably made the most complex and dry of administrative law issues understandable with his great skill and enthusiasm for the subject.
In loving remembrance of Dave’s guiding values to “Accept what is”, “Create what you can now” and “Do the next right thing”, in lieu of flowers please direct charitable donations to Access Pro Bono Society of BC, where Dave volunteered for much of his legal career.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 15th. If you wish to attend, please email memorialfordavegarner@gmail.com for more information.
