It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Axen who passed away suddenly on September 11, 2019.  David was born in Brackendale, BC on August 6, 1938 to Bertha and Erik Axen.  He is predeceased by his beloved wife Louise Axen (nee Parkins), his brothers George and Frank and his sister Ellen. He leaves behind his sister and dear friend, Iris Henslowe as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

David studied physics at UBC, completing his PHD there in 1965.  He later joined TRIUMF at UBC in the late 1960’s and eventually become Associate Director before his retirement in 2004.  After his retirement he worked as a professor emeritus and as his passion for learning and knowledge continued, David continued to be an active member of the TRIUMF community as Professor Emeritus and TRIUMF Affiliated Scientist.

David will be remembered as kind and gentle person who was generous with his time and knowledge and desire to learn and teach.

His great loves were Louise, his work as a research scientist, travelling in Europe, and modern art.

A reception to celebrate his life will be held at the UBC golf course on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 2-4p.m.
