Darryl Franklin Staples

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Darryl Franklin Staples on January 17th, 2025. He was an accomplished and dedicated businessman owning a successful employee benefits consulting company in Vancouver for over 40 years. Darryl loved his business, especially his personal connections with his long-term clients and insurance representatives.

Darryl was guided by loyalty and business ethics and always went to bat for his clients. His unique sense of humour was notorious. He could light up any room with his quick wit and charm. Darryl was a great mentor to his employees, many of whom continued to have successful careers in the insurance industry.

As a true sports enthusiast, Darryl was the president of the BC Hang Gliding Association in his earlier years, an avid skier, canoeist and cyclist completing four Whistler Gran Fondos, the last one in his early seventies. 

He will be immensely missed by his beloved wife Erni of 34 years, with whom he shared many of his outdoor activities, their Whistler life and lots of extraordinary travel adventures. 

Darryl loved his cars, cats and the Canucks. Born in Winnipeg, he was a true Canadian in heart and spirit. 

Darryl’s exceptional drive, great sense of humour and business expertise will be sorely missed by his staff, clients, friends and family.

Darryl is survived by his wife Erna Staples-Horninger, his brother Robert Victor Staples and will be lovingly remembered by his extended family in Canada and Austria.

At Darryl’s request there will be no formal celebration of life.
