Curtis went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 around 10 PM, in his home in Vancouver, BC, just hours after having a cheerful video chat about new beginnings with his mom, Kristi Keller. That conversation will forever remain one of her many happy memories, which makes it hard to comprehend his passing at the tender young age of 28, when he still had a whole amazing life ahead of him.
Curtis made some unfortunate choices in his life which ultimately led him to finding purpose in helping others to at least begin to realize their dreams. He was intellectually gifted, achieving the halfway mark to his Psychology degree in just a year and a half, under the most adverse study conditions. But he was a risk taker and determined to push through and demonstrate to others that they too could find a measure of success despite circumstance. He wore his TRU sweater with great pride.
Like his late grandfather, great grandfathers and others in the family, Curtis was passionate about music from classical (he liked to fall asleep to Mozart when he was just 6 years old) to electronic genres. Many will remember him for his production skills and unique performance styles.
Curtis is lovingly remembered by his close friends as the guy who lit up the room when he walked in and by his mom and G’ma as the one who lit up their lives with his ridiculously quirky sense of humor. He is loved to heaven and back and will be forever missed by his immediate family, especially his two beautiful children, Skyy (8) and Everett (5) whom he adored.
Along with his children, Curtis is survived by his mother, Kristi Keller, his grandmother, Vicki Keller, his Aunt and God mother, Larissa Hannah (Colin) and cousins Taylor and Morgan Hannah, Great Uncle and God father, Doug Keller (Gail), other extended family, as well as adopted Aunty Chantal who was always one of his biggest cheerleaders, and the mothers of his children; Amanda DeBakker and Mercedes Fox.
Due to Covid19 protocols, a closed memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date by invitation only, for family and close friends. RSVPs will be required and appreciated.
There will also be a live streamed Mass and memorial by Kearney Funeral Services in Vancouver on November 10th at 7 PM, pacific time (8 PM, mountain time) for anyone wishing to attend virtually, through www.legacystreaming.com/kearney .
Condolences and tributes can also be posted below.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making ‘acts of kindness’ a personal priority. Curtis longed for a much kinder world while he was in it. Monetary donations to any Mental Health Initiative in Curtis’s name would also be gratefully appreciated.
