Nellie passed away peacefully January 1st, 2018 in hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene (Gene), and siblings Mary, Ann, Teena and Peter.

Nellie was born on the farm near Plum Coulee, Manitoba. Nellie and Gene were married in Portage on April 2nd, 1949 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together until Gene’s death in 1997. For the last 20 years, Nellie proudly lived independently in White Rock.

Nellie is survived by her children Mona (Ron) Kille, Donna (Tom) Lafreniere and Ken (Joanne) Mellquist, her grandchildren Julie (Colin), Erin, David, Robin, Kevin (Natrisha), Jordan and Justin, her great grandchildren Bella, Nicolas, Mathew and Anthony, and her siblings Jim and Violet.

Nellie was an excellent homemaker and a self-taught seamstress making everything from suits for Dad to knitted hats for newborns. Her handmade creations are treasured by countless family and friends. Nellie enjoyed time volunteering with the Peace Arch Auxiliary, Eastern Star and her church. Nellie loved baking, gardening, traveling and especially spending time with familyand friends.

Most of all, Nellie will be remembered for her love of family, unending kindness, generosity and amazing work ethic. Her determination since suffering a stroke last May was inspiring and she was able to share smiles, hugs, kisses and laughter with loved ones and Sunrise care workers on a daily basis.
