MARKWAT, Coby of New Westminster, passed away July 8, 2021, at Royal Columbian Hospital, after a courageous battle with a sudden terminal illness. Thank you to the staff of Emergency and 6 South for their compassionate care. Coby was born in the Netherlands on July 3, 1931 and had her 90th birthday in hospital. Coby and her husband and soulmate, John, bravely emigrated to Vancouver in 1956 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 64 years. Coby was a loving wife and mother. She and John worked hard as small business owners, running a motel in Burnaby, before it became the city it is now. She is survived by her daughter Diane (Don), grandchildren, Natalie, Eric, Jaclyn, and son John, grandchildren Nolan, Adam, and Mitch. Coby was a good listener, and sincerely cared for everyone she met. She never lost her connection to a large network of family in Holland, and lifelong friends. She had faith that she would one day be reunited with her husband, John, and granddaughter, Michelle. Her strength of spirit, sense of humour, and dedication to her loved ones will be an inspiration to us always. A Funeral Mass for Coby will be held at St. Peter’s Church, 330 Royal Ave, New Westminster, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest to join her husband, John, at the Gardens of Gethsemani in Surrey.
