Christopher John Cairo died on February 5, 2022, at the age of 68, with family and a close friend at his side. He said his good-byes with laughs and tears and died with dignity and bravery. Chris was born in Toronto on Friday May 13, 1953 to Dorothy (Adgy) Cairo and Vincent Cairo. He had one older brother, Vincent Sydney Cairo. He valued the time that he spent in his teenage years working with his grampa Jimmy caring for horses at the racetrack; as a result he had a life-long love for horses. He was also a lover of music - listening to it, recording it and singing and playing his acoustic guitar. For him, the greatest song ever written was by John Lennon - the Ballad of John and Yoko (I hope we got that right dad! If not, I’m sure you will have a good laugh about it). In his long-haired hippie days he hitch-hiked across Canada to Vancouver, where he lived for most of his life. Chris was married to Shelley (Gordon) Cairo from 1974-1994. Their twin daughters, Jasmine and Tara were born in 1974 and their son Jai in 1981. Chris was a consistent loving presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren (Cassius, Kaia, Paris and Uma) and his son-in-law Matthew Matheson. Highlights of the many jobs he worked in his 20s include booking bands for music clubs, DJing for CO-OP radio and recording live music from his mobile recording studio. From age 30-65 he worked as an audio engineer for TV and film. He married Tsui Ning Betty Cheung in July of 2002. The last 20 years that he got to spend with Betty, traveling, walking in nature, gardening and enjoying many meals together, brought him great peace and happiness. A memorial celebration will be held in the Spring. Please email tara.cairo@gmail.com if you would like an invitation.
