Not how that he died
But how did he live
Not that which he gained
But that which he gave
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Christopher K. Covell at age 57 in Vancouver, B.C. Chris’ life was cut short, but he lived it well. He will be remembered for his intelligence, creativity, kindness, and generosity. He will be sorely missed by his wife Sarah, his parents Katherine and Brian, his brother Tim, his and Sarah’s extended families, his beloved cats especially Permit, and all his many friends and colleagues.
His kindness was always in evidence – in looking after stray animals and people, generous gifts, and watching out for his parents at all times. As a teenager, Chris would share his lunches and treats with the street people who he passed on Yonge Street in Toronto. In Vancouver, Chris and Sarah made Kitsilano their home for more than 10 years. Chris fiercely supported local businesses, especially during COVID, and he was known as the customer who brought homemade meals and thoughtful gifts to staff.
As a teen, Chris quickly mastered his first computer, and with little formal training soon held senior positions in information technology and security with major companies across many industries, and most recently as a cyber security consultant.
Chris’ work and curiosity led him to travel extensively, sampling cuisine and culture from around the world. He hiked into remote locations through Central America, visited wineries in Australia, explored local sights and experiences during business trips to India, Asia, and more. Chris and Sarah had many unforgettable adventures, whether relaxing on exotic beaches, exploring new cities, having wild weekends in Vegas, taking in the views on a train ride through the Rockies, or screaming through thrill rides at Universal Studios. Chris savoured life and generously shared his stories, knowledge, and his incredible cooking with anyone he met. Our lives are all richer for having known him.
A celebration of life will be held April 26th at Kearney Funeral Services Vancouver (450 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Y 1E2) at 1:00pm. Please follow the link below to RSVP.
