Our beloved wife and dearest mother Christina Suk Ching Cheung, aged 48, of Vancouver, has passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband by her side at dawn on Thursday, July 12th, 2012, at Vancouver General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer since 2010.
Christina, the 4th child of Kam Chau Cheung and Nga Ching Wong, was born on Dec. 14th, 1963 in Hong Kong. She moved with her family to Vancouver in 1983. Since graduating from BCIT with a Diploma of Technology in Financial Management, Accounting Option in 1988, Christina had worked for more than twenty years as an accountant in Vancouver's restaurant, manufacturing, and retail sectors. Christina especially enjoyed her time working at Kirin Restaurant and Liberty Wine Merchants, where her cheerful personality, brilliant talents, and hard work and dedication had earned her many endearing friendships and much mutual admiration and respect.
Christina is survived by her best friend and husband of 20 years Gerry Huang; their son Thomas Jonathan Huang; her father Kam Chau Cheung, mother Nga Ching Wong, and mother-in-law Mei Hsien Huang; her brothers Eric and Willy (Yen); her sisters Lai Fan (Tom) and Sr. Suk Yuen; her brothers- and sisters-in-law Ming (Lily), Martin (Karen), and Christine (Trevor); her nephews Justin and Jason; her nieces Medeline, Chelsea, Melisa, Leanna, Natasha, Lindsay, and Monica; and many uncles and aunts and cousins in Vancouver, New Zealand, the United States, and China.
Vigil Service will take place on Tuesday, July 17th, 2012 at 8:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church - 2881 Main Street, Vancouver, BC, V5T 3G1.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 at 1:30 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church - 2881 Main Street, Vancouver, BC, V5T 3G1.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC, V5G 3M1 immediately following the funeral mass.
Reception will be at Kirin Chinese Restaurant, 201 City Square, 555 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver, BC following the interment.
Our family wishes to express our greatest gratitude to all the wonderful staff at BC Cancer Agency, Unit 4C and the Palliative Unit at VGH. We also would like to thank all the family members, friends, and co-workers who visited Christina, sent flowers and well wishes, and prayed for us. Lastly, we are so grateful to Father Anthony Ho, who has provided the family with much needed assurance, guidance and comfort in these difficult months.
