It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Chong-Tai Terence Joseph Teng on Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Vancouver General Hospital.
Soon after his birth in China on November 22, 1939, Dad moved to Hong Kong to live with his family. He was the fifth of seven children. Growing up in Hong Kong was uneventful until he found the love of his life, Katy, in 1957. The couple married in 1964 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
After graduating from the Hong Kong University in 1963, Dad became an educator and remained as one until his retirement in 1996. During his tenure as teacher, vice principal and principal, he touched and shaped the lives of tens of thousands of young people. In addition, Dad immersed himself in civic affairs believing strongly that he had a duty to give back to the community that had given him so much. In his retirement, Dad spent time with his friends, alumni and colleagues, but most importantly, he found no greater joy than to be in the company of his loving family.
In the later years of his life, Dad was welcomed into the St. Anthony of Padua parish, where his faith in God was further strengthened, culminating in his baptism by Father Justin on July 17, 2022.
Chong-Tai is survived by his wife Katy, daughters Wendy and Bonnie (Andrew), son Clinton (Alessia) and grandson Felix.
Prayers and vigil will be offered on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and the funeral mass will be offered on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00am, both at his parish located at 8891 Montcalm St., Vancouver. A reception will be hosted by the family at the Red Star Restaurant on 8298 Granville Street, after the funeral mass. Furthermore, both the funeral mass and the reception will be streamed online at the following link: https://www.legacystreaming.com/kearney/.
