It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Diane Matsuo (née Matsuda). Diane was known for her boundless energy, green thumb and love of watching sports, especially hockey, baseball and curling.  She had slowed down a bit following a heart attack and stroke in 2011, but showed her indomitable spirit and perseverance during the many months of therapy and rehabilitation that followed.

Diane was born in Kelowna, BC, and moved to Vancouver, BC, to attend hairdressing school.  Diane was a devoted wife and mother as well as an active member of the Japanese Canadian community.

Diane was predeceased by her loving husband, Neil, in 2013 and will be deeply missed by her daughters Michelle, Tracy (Sébastien), and Corey (Derek) and her granddaughter Audrey. She is survived by her siblings Mitsuko (Fumi), Helen, Lou (Diane), Tom (Jeanette), Sam, Mary (Steve), Ken, and predeceased by her parents, oldest brother (Katsugi) and brother-in-law (Tom).  She will be greatly missed by her “other” children, Kim and Scott, and her many family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Nagle and the staff and residents at Gilmore Gardens for their care, compassion and friendship. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 2pm at the Steveston Buddhist Temple. In lieu of flowers and koden, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
