It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Catherine Chauvin (nee Gazo) on October 18, 2009 at Vancouver, BC. Catherine is survived by her daughter Sarah and son-in-law Garth Racicot, son Christian and daughter-in-law Kirsten Chauvin, father John D. Gazo, and brothers Michael and John H. Gazo. She is also the proud grandmother to Nicholas, Kyle and Megan, as well as Aunt to three nephews, two nieces, colleague to many, and friend to all.
Originally from Windsor, ON, Catherine moved to Victoria, BC in 1972 and fell in love with the oceans, mountains, and natural beauty of the West Coast. Victoria is where she made her home for three decades, where she raised her family, and where she discovered her natural talent at finding people their most important of possessions, their home. Indeed, Real Estate sales are what brought Catherine to Vancouver, BC in 1996 and ultimately led her to find her true passion, teaching. Catherine taught Residential Tenancy and Law, as well as Real Estate Administration at both Vancouver Community College and Langara College for eight years, where her students were inevitably imbued with her passion for the subjects.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Sophie Sun for her compassionate care, Dr. Jackie Matsyk for allowing her to be a patient to the best family doctor in the city, Brian Pink for being her champion in every way, the nurses on Tower 8B for their caring ministrations, Home Care nurses Susan and Laurie for being there when needed, and Don and Heather for just being them.
At her request, cremation has taken place and her cremated remains will be scattered amongst the soaring birds and ocean she loved. No formal service will be held by request. Memorial donations can be made in Catherine’s honour to the BC Cancer Foundation, your local SPCA branch, or to a literacy program in your community.
