It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Kay. Born in Liverpool, England on Aug. 12, 1919, Kay passed away on May 24, 2012 in Vancouver, B.C., with her son Laurence and daughter-in-law Marianne holding her hand. She is also survived by her brother John Byrne and his family in White Rock, B.C., and by her nephew, Stephen (Wil) Taylor, of Surrey, niece Joan Shain of Maple Ridge and great niece Cyan Yetman (Blain) & great great niece Beatrix, all of Toronto, Ont. As well, as her many nieces and nephews, on both sides of the family in Vancouver and England. Predeceased by her parents, William & Mary Ellen Shields and loving husband Wilfred (1943). Pre-deceased by siblings, William, James, Mary Alice, Margaret (Keegan) all of England and twin Winifred (Taylor) of Vancouver. Kay was a veteran of the Second World War, a lifetime member of the Women’s Catholic League and a member of the Marian Society and found great comfort in her religious beliefs. As a volunteer at Youville Residence for some 30 years, Kay believed one of life’s blessings, was that of always being engaged in service to others. Those of us who knew and loved Kay can take comfort in the fact that she is at peace in Heaven, surrounded by her loved ones passed. She will be forever in the hearts of her family and many friends. Funeral Mass will be held on June 2nd, 2012, 11:00 a.m., in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 1430 West 38th Ave., Vancouver. Burial will be June 4th at 11:00 a.m., 2012, in Gardens of Gethsemani, Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kay’s name to www.smiletraincanada.org or a charity of your choice.
