Carol passed away peacefully in Vancouver, BC, on May 22, 2022, around noon. She is survived by her loving daughter, Alexandra; Duncan’s children, daughter Margaret (Bob), sons Ian (Louise) and Hugh (Clariel) and Duncan’s four grandchildren, Maren, Jocelyn, and twins Stellan and Lachlan; siblings Karen and Jim (daughter Erin, stepdaughter Sherann, and stepson Scott). She is predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband Duncan (2020), and his daughter Cathy.

Carol grew up as a farm girl from Saskatchewan when life was simple and carefree. She was the youngest of three children. Carol wanted to explore the rest of Canada and travelled from the East Coast to the West Coast. Settling in Vancouver, she spent most of her life there and called it home. After training in court reporting, she worked as a reporter for 20 years. Following this involved two significant events; her loving marriage to Duncan and travelling to China to adopt their daughter Alexandra. Carol and Duncan were happily married for 25 years and were wonderful parents. Before her passing, she said that “Alexandra is everyone’s dream of what a daughter could be.”

After retiring from court reporting, Carol never stopped working. She homeschooled her daughter from Grade three to Grade eight, was a receptionist at her husband’s office, worked on many home projects, and even did some investing. It was always hard for her to relax, and even on vacations she would need constant reminders to not work. Whenever Carol had a task, she was always determined and never gave up until it was completed.

Carol was always a practical and reasonable person, who did not let emotions get the best of her. This helped with her good decision-making skills, and it went a long way in helping others. She had a strong sense of what was right and wrong, which was passed down to her daughter who is also following in her footsteps by studying Criminology.

In her last year, Carol was diagnosed with cancer, but that never stopped her from fighting. Even during the hardest times, she never gave up, with her daughter by her side every step of the way. Carol passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital from a lung infection complication. She will be remembered as a caring, kind, and loving person, who would help anyone in need. She had a beautiful smile and eyes that could light up a room. Gone too soon, Carol will be greatly missed and always loved in memory. May God bless her.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in order to continue the search to cure cancers and prolong life. A small gathering will be held in late summer and her ashes will be interred according to her wishes.
