With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and wife, Candy Ngan Sun. Just a day after her 65th birthday, a stroke took her life and brought her to her forever resting place next to God. She slipped away peacefully surrounded by her loving family – her devoted husband of 37 years, Thomas, their three children, Jacky, Ada, and Michelle, as well as in-laws Rosa, Ricky, Brenda, John, and nephews Alex and Eric. Honoring the compassionate spirit of Candy, her donated organs served to give 4 other people and their families a second chance at life, passing on lasting love and hope in spite of the shards left behind by this unexpected goodbye.

Candy was born in Hong Kong as the 4th of 7 children to a military family and made Richmond, BC her home since 1994. Well-loved and respected by her peers and family, she was as popular as her name suggests. Candy was a courageous woman, full of energy and strength. She never bowed down to challenges and she tackled life’s obstacles with her sharp wit, kind heart, and leadership - even if it took sacrifices. She inspired others with her resilient and generous spirit, whether it was through her early years as a big-hearted nurse or later years as a successful businesswoman. Above all, Candy was a devoted wife and mother – her undiluted love will always bring up swells of affection in our hearts. Her irreplaceable place in the family will be forever missed by her husband and children.

To us, Candy was as quick as a whip and always ready for action – wide smile, discerning eyes, hair as bright as flames, quick tears, easy laughter, a stubborn mind, a soft heart, a rushed walking pace, a dignified presence, blunt speech that can make you cry or laugh, and a look that always tell you that this woman is exceptional. This was our Candy.

Candy will be adoringly remembered by her siblings, in-laws, nephews, nieces, friends, and all those who knew her. We will always remember her in the depths of our hearts as the little swallow bird, her Chinese nickname – radiant, beautiful, and free.

A Funeral Mass will be held on January 13, 2020 at Canadian Martyrs Parish (5771 Granville Ave, Richmond, BC V7C 1E8) at 11:00am, preceded by prayers beginning at 10:00am.
