With the heaviest of hearts, we are sad to announce the passing of Bruno.
Bruno, 95, peacefully passed away due to congestive heart failure at Langley Memorial Hospital on June 22, 2021.
Bruno was born in Cloverdale to Bruno and Catherine Zappone (predeceased) and made it his home for all of his 95 years. He lived his early years in downtown Cloverdale. In 1962, he built his home where he lived until he passed.
Bruno had four brothers. He was predeceased by Carl, Jim and Joe. He is survived by Rocco.
He is also survived by his daughters Brenda McCormick (Brian) and Beverley Brewer (Doug). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Tony Brewer (Sharon) and Amanda Clack (Kevin) as well as his great-grandchildren Emily, Kayleigh, Torrance, Aiden, Bronwyn and Cian.
At the age of 17, Bruno bought his first dump truck and not long after Zappone Trucking was born in 1946. He provided 75 years of service in one community – this is quite an accomplishment!
Bruno was a loving, supportive, amazing, one of a kind Father. Blessed for all of our memories!
The community sadly lost a pillar on June 22nd. Bruno was actively involved with the truck museum, City of Surrey museum, Seniors’ Housing, Lions Club and, in his younger years, he was a volunteer fire fighter. For all his years of service, he was honoured not once but twice as Citizen of the Year for Surrey.
We’ve heard our Dad referred to by many names - “Character”, “Leader”, “Supporter”, “Volunteer”, “a force to be reckoned with”, “a Legend” and, of course, “a Friend”.
Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace Dad.
There will be a family gathering on July 9th, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Precious Blood Parish. Due to COVID restrictions, there is a 50-guest limit. When restrictions open, we will have a Celebration of Life on a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Pacific Community Church.
