Michael ‘Bruce’ Anderson, beloved husband of Alison Dempsey passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the age of 52 years. Bruce was born in Ottawa, Ontario where he attended school and university, earning an MA in political science. During his childhood in Ottawa, he enjoyed summers at the family cottage in the Gatineau, and loved playing hockey in the winters.  In 1997, Bruce ventured west to work in the City of Calgary, Community Strategies Unit where he pursued his commitment to research and service in the public interest. In 2002, he met Alison and together they made their way to the west coast where Bruce joined the BC public service in 2007. He worked for the Ministry of Justice until surgery to alleviate a chronic illness in July 2016 revealed the devastating disease that eventually took him from us too early. Bruce was a committed and gifted musician and writer, talented athlete, avid follower of politics and professional sports – anything with quality stats to analyze. He loved conversation and long walks with Alison by his side. Family, friends and colleagues will miss his generosity, humour, interest, perceptive analysis and positive attitude – one which he maintained to the last. Memorial tributes may be made to the Salvation Army, British Columbia Division (103 – 3833 Henning Dr., Burnaby BC V5C 6N5; (604) 299-3908; www.salvationarmy.ca) or to the charity of choice.
