Brendan passed away suddenly on July 22, 2019 at the age of 82 with his wife Patti by his side.
Loved by many and liked by more, Brendan Anthony McGuire was a family man who loved and cared for his wife and children dearly. Quick to laugh or tell a story, he had many friends throughout his life.
Born in Montreal in 1937, he grew up on the family farm on the island of Terrebonne in the St Lawrence River with his mother and father, Mary and Jim, and brothers and sisters, Larry, Kathleen, Maureen, Jim and Dennis.
He was an avid sportsman, and captained the Westmount Warrior’s football team and was on the practice squad for the Montreal Allouettes. After several years working at Bell Telephone in Montreal, he took his family across Canada to settle in Vancouver, BC in 1968. He worked at BC Tel in union and management positions and was instrumental in establishing their retail service centres. He retired in 1993 after 25 years of service. Shortly after retirement he started working at the Delta Driving Range and remained there for 17 years. He made many friends and wonderful memories.
An awesome Dad, he loved and supported his kids, Chris, Lindley, Dan and Pat throughout their lives, and was accepting of who they were and proud of their accomplishments. He cherished his grandchildren greatly. He also loved his nieces and nephews and all of their kids.
The love of his life was his wife, Patti, with whom he was married for 32 years. They travelled the world together, taking long walks and golfing in amazing places and joining forces to be there when any family member was in need. Patti was fastidious in his care till the end and Brendan always knew how loved and blessed he was to have her.
Brendan was decent and honest and genuine and a lot of fun to be around. Endlessly practical, his most persistent piece of advice was to tell people that you loved them, something he always did. People always knew how much he loved them and loved him back. He lived a long, full life, surrounded by wonderful people till the end.
Brendan was predeceased by his son Chris. He will always be Loved and missed by his wife, Patti, his children, Dan (Simone), Lindley, Pat, his grandsons Riley, Connor and Kieran and his granddaughter Sian and countless other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC in Brendan’s name would be greatly appreciated. Private Service to be held at a later date.
