Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba July 23, 1921 and died in Tsawwassen, BC on April 6, 2010. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John of 64 years (September 2006) and elder son Randy (August 2000). She is survived by her younger son Jeffrey (Claudette) and grandchildren Michael and Christine. She also leaves to mourn niece Janie Randolph of Ottawa and her children John and Ruth and their families; the Ames and McCoubrey families of Burnaby, White Rock and the Okanagan Valley.
She was raised in Winnipeg where she met and married John in 1946. They moved to Vancouver shortly thereafter and soon began a family and lived there until being transferred to Montreal in 1955.
Bettie was a loving mother, devoted wife, and awesome Grandma who was always there to nurture and support. While her family was her greatest joy, friends were also important and with her wonderful infectious sense of humour she made many wherever she went.
She believed in giving of herself and was an active volunteer all of her life. In Montreal, while raising a young family, she helped set up and organize the school library at Courtland Park; was an alter guild member at St. Andrew’s Church; and spent many years co-ordinating the annual Unicef Christmas card sales distribution on the West Island.
After retiring in 1984 and returning to Vancouver she continued to be active at St. David’s Anglican Church and with the Delta Hospital Ladies Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Bettie also loved animals and the SPCA was one of her favourite organizations. She would collect old blankets and balls from the Thrift Shop and, along with the biggest bags of dog and cat food that she could carry, would make regular drop offs at the local SPCA to ensure the animals were comfortable.
Bettie will long be remembered and have a special place in the hearts of her family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Martin Ray and the staff of the Waterford Care facility.
