Bernie passed away suddenly at Surrey Memorial Hospital on Dec. 12, 2021, after several years of declining health.

He is predeceased by his parents Heinrich and Bernardine (Weghaus), all 4 siblings Heinz, Marika, Agnes and Joseph and tragically, by his youngest son Norman (1971).

Bernie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anita and his remaining children, with whom he was very proud, Michael (Bonnie), Shawn, Andrea (Mike), Christopher and Joanne (Edward) as well as his 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel, Germany July 30, 1936 and came to Canada in 1954.

He enjoyed pursuing many activities throughout his life:  the outdoors/hiking & hunting, hobby & tree-farming, antique equipment collecting, motorcycles, ultralight airplanes, music & dancing, choir singing, travelling to meet new people as well as old friends & family, seeing new places & most memorably, he loved taking photos of everyone & everything - everywhere he went.

Bernie was especially able to pursue his favorite things after taking early retirement from a tool & die-making career in 1985.

He was an active member of several choirs & groups who will feel his loss.

The family is not planning any memorial services at this time and ask that, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a favorite charity in his memory.
