After a brief, valiant battle with cancer, Bernie passed peacefully in Burnaby BC. Born in Moncton NB, Bernie’s life was one of adventure. She lived in 5 provinces, traveled across Canada countless times and to a number of countries. She achieved a lifelong dream of an Alaskan cruise earlier this summer. Some of Bernie’s happiest times were spent gathering with friends laughing, dancing, drinking beer and playing darts at local clubs. Always with an eye for fashion Bernie loved to surprise with vibrant hair colours to reflect her mood.
As a single mother and beloved Nana, her children and (great) grandchildren were her pride and joy. Bernie is survived by her children Gord Brown (Neysa) of Vancouver BC, Krista Duguay (Jean Pierre) of Notre Dame NB and Kathy Picard (James) of Port Moody BC; grandchildren Jean-Daniel, Kenneth, Donald and Emma, great-granddaughter Hailee and sister Beulah Brydon Somerset NS. She was predeceased by her parents John and Helen Greer, sisters Ruth and Olive, daughter-in-law Joy Brown and infant grandchildren. Thank you to Dr. Marzieh Shafie, Bernie’s family practice doctor who cared for her for many years, to Fraser Health Home Care and Palliative nurses and doctors, BC Ambulance paramedics and Burnaby Hospital emergency and palliative departments.
A celebration and thanksgiving for Bernie’s life will be arranged at a later date. Donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
