Her sense of humour and dry wit helped her deal with many challenges in her 99 years. Beatrice Walman’s Eulogy - Terry Walman

May 24th 2019

For those whom do not know me, I am Terry Walman, the oldest of Mother’s five children. Mother was widowed 45 years ago and I became her guardian for the following 45 years.

We all know Mother was a woman of great beauty and talent, had the gift of gab and sure knew her sports. But what I want to talk to you about is the many graces and gifts that I witness mother receive from God.

Mother had a strong Catholic Faith. She loved her religion and her church. When strangers would ask her if she was Catholic she would respond “ Yes I am a Roman Catholic and very proud of it “ She had received the grace of a lively faith.

Mother first started praying to St.Jude when she was 16 years old. That is over 80 years of true devotion to St. Jude. Imagine...80 years of true devotion to St.Jude. Today that is unthinkable. Plus she attended many Sunday Masses at St. Jude’s Parish during her life, especially the children’s mass at 5 pm. which she loved dearly.

After prayers, mother’s body remained overnight in front of the statue of St. Jude until the Mass of the Resurrection was held the following day.

Thus our family is thankful to Father Jun for allowing mother to be buried from St,Jude’s Parish. Mother was also devoted to St.Anne, Our Lady’s Mother.

How did mother get to be such a person of strong Catholic Faith? Where did it start? It all started right in her parents home. Both her parents were devout Catholics. Her father was a convert and attended 6:30 mass every morning and prayed the rosary daily. Her mother also had a prayer life and they both went to the St. Jude novena every Wednesday night. This is how my mother first met St. Jude when she was 16 years old. It was Mother’s belief that our time on this earth was a journey back to God, nothing else. But she needed someone to be her guide and companion on this journey as no one can do it alone. That guide was to be the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

During her entire life she prayed the rosary daily, asking Mary to guide her through all her trials, tribulations and sufferings. When she was widowed not once but twice, surviving a major cancer operation and suffering the loss of her son Myles, she sought refuge in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Thus I witnessed Mother not only receive the grace of true devotion to Our Lady but also the grace of a love of the cross.

During the last two years of her life when she was suffering from poor health, which she freely accepted, I witnessed her receive from God the three graces of final perseverance, great patience in her suffering, and a holy death, which all of us hope to also achieve.

My grandmother taught me “ you die when your work is finished “. Our mother’s work is now finished and, trusting God, she is now blessing God with St. Jude and all the elect and together will be singing a song of gratitude throughout all eternity for his great goodness and mercy.

Mother died May 21st, 2019 on the day of the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.

In conclusion, what a great journey our mother had. May you Mother now receive the eternal crown that is being prepared for you. We all loved you dearly Mother.

Rest In Eternal Peace Mother.

Amen

Thank you

Yesterday we said goodbye to an absolute legend and the matriarch of our family.

After 99 years on this planet her body could no longer keep up to her lively spirit. She taught me so much and touched many people throughout her life with her dry humour and her matter of fact way of thinking. She taught me to always be well dressed, polite, and to treat women with upmost respect.

A true Canadian and Vancouverite, Gram was a fashion icon and an early feminist. Grams always believed in what was right and was rooted in her strong morals and beliefs. Accepting and forgiving, the door was always open at her house and the unconditional love
she had for her family was unwavering. She created an amazing family and I feel so grateful to have had her as a friend, mentor and grandma.

I love you Grammy, see you on the other side.

This past week hasn't been easy one, our family lost a best friend. My Gram Beatrice was the matriarch of our family and she carried her head as high she could no matter how heavy her crown weighed. She would add a new Jewel for ever hand she gave to help, lesson she taught and person she inspired to be the best they could. Her memory will live on through us and her family forever. Gram thank you for the 99 years of devotion you gave to your family. We will love you forever. God Bless.
