Barry Ledwidge passed away peacefully at Crossroads Hospice, Port Moody on October 14, 2020 at the age of 80 years. Lover of life, people, cooking, reading, writing, bridge, Saturday movies, good conversation and laughter. Beloved husband of Anne (nee Hutton) of 52 years. Loving father of the late Michael (Erika Ruiz) and of Jennifer (Paul Wood). Devoted grandfather of Naomi, and proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews, including Maureen, whom he was blessed to have nearby during his final days. He is survived by his sisters Joan (the late Russell) and Diane (Paul) and predeceased by sister Rhona (the late Phil).
Born in Montreal in 1940, Barry and Anne moved to British Columbia in 1970 for Barry to work as a psychologist at Riverview Hospital. He earned a doctorate in psychology from Simon Fraser University in 1983, and later found fulfillment as a lecturer there, in addition to his work at Riverview. In retirement, he was an active volunteer and board member of POCOMO Meals on Wheels.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Columbia-Bowell Chapel 219 - 6th Street in New Westminster on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 12:00 noon. Attendance in person is limited due to COVID-19, but a livestream will be available. Please contact the family to register interest.
Additionally, there will be a funeral mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 140 Moody Street, Port Moody on Thursday, November 5th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. No advance registration necessary.
