Assina Mohipp, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. She was born in Trinidad on August 21, 1931, to Hukumdar Khan and Hakiman Khan first- and second-generation Indian immigrants to Trinidad.
Sheena, as she was known to everyone, celebrated her 90th birthday in August, which she described as the best day ever after having connected with family with WhatsApp video in Kent, England, Long Island, New York, and Trinidad.
She was a nurse until her retirement from administration. Her nursing career began in Trinidad followed by studies in England to obtain her RN. This was followed by work in various specialties such as general nursing, midwifery, emergency, and mental health. Her dedication to her profession was always evident in holding health care workers to the highest standards.
She had a miraculous healing when Jesus appeared to her in her living room. Sheena devoted her life with passion to serving and witnessing to any and everyone about the Lord, even attending Bible College after work (3 credits short of becoming an ordained minister), and doing missionary work and crusades abroad, attending conferences, and praying for people she knew and did not know. She prayed for everyone everyday. She was relentless in pursuing her faith and was a true blessing from God. We were fortunate to have her in our life.
Sheena loved and doted on her family, Leon, her three grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and David, her late husband Ken, and Avena (her daughter-in-law). She loved her church, family, and all those she met through outreach.
Confined to a wheelchair after a fall on November 11th, 2019, when she broke her neck and was in constant pain, her faith was never dampened, and took the opportunity to witness to all her caregivers at Royal Columbian Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital, Queens Park Health Care Centre, and Buchanan Lodge.
Death was always seen as a transition to going home to heaven and being in the presence of Jesus for eternity – and that we should not be sad when she passed, she knew where she was going at the end of life’s journey, was ready to go anytime, and was not afraid. She is at peace. Sheena was a remarkable person. We loved her with all our heart and will miss her immensely.
