It is with great sadness that the family of Stewart Cooper announces his passing on January 15, 2024 at the age of 87.
Stewart passed away at home in Surrey, B.C. surrounded by his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Gloria, and his children, David (Kathy), Don (Cheryl), Laurie (Rob), Gordon (Claudia) and grandchildren, Alex, Lisa, Steven, Ben, Tiesha, Jessica and Giselle and great-grandson, Noah.
Stewart was born in Rossland, B.C. to Guy and Georgina Cooper. He was the youngest of 5 children.
At 16 he got a summer job with Canadian National Railway and worked on one of the last steam trains. Stewart graduated from Van Tech in 1955. After graduation he started working in the printing trade and was a proud member of the G.C.I.U. Local 525 and retired in 1996 after over 40 years.
Stewart was a family man who enjoyed many a family road trip and vacations. He travelled with the love of his life, Gloria, to Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Mexico, the Dominican Republic as well as numerous cruises.
He absolutely loved his shelties.
Stewart was athletic and enjoyed rugby, softball, racquetball, golf and fishing. In his early retirement years he played on a ball team and competed in the BC Seniors Summer Games.
We will miss his amazing quick wit, his kind heart and his always-at-the ready to lend a helping hand.
“In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still, In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill”
In lieu of flowers and if you wish, donations to the BC Cancer Agency, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC SPCA in Stewart’s memory would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the community room at St. Andrews in Cloverdale (16433 – 64th Avenue, Surrey) from 1 to 3 pm on Friday February 16, 2024.
