Anthony (Tony) Yon passed away peacefully on September 16, 2012, at the age of 97. Tony was born in Bankhead, Alberta, March 14, 1915. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Tony’s pride and joy was his family. His foundation was his faith. He is survived by his 3 daughters Tena Colton (Terry), Julie Peterson (Dave), Lori Johnstone (Rob), 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Tony grew up on a farm on Vancouver Island with his brothers, Barney and Leo, where he developed a love of the outdoors, as well as his ability to ‘fix anything’. He spent over 40 years in the construction industry and retired as the Pacific Regional Construction Manager for Commonwealth Construction Company. He supervised the construction of many Vancouver landmarks, including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the Knight Street Bridge. His job took him to many parts of BC and also Nevada. Tony served his country during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy stationed in Halifax, NS and Gaspe, Que. Tony’s passions were his garden and fishing and many friends enjoyed the abundance of both. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. His family would like to thank the staff of Belvedere Care Centre for their loving care provided to him over the last six years, Dr. Bruce Cornish, Dr. Brian Monks, Smiles Unlimited, Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, and Bruce Robillard, his Eucharistic minister and friend.
