Born in Strasbourg, Sask. to George and Mary Esson, Anne grew up in the tough years of the 20's and 30's on the family farm near Beechy, SK with 6 brothers: Victor, Malcolm, Horace, Donald and is survived by Norman and Russell. During the war years she moved to Vancouver, where she worked in the Boeing Aircraft factory. Anne met and married William (Bill) Gemmell on Oct 11, 1947. Together they raised 5 sons: Robert (Tina), Stuart (Doreen), Donald (Elizabeth), Thomas (Pam) and Jeffery (Michelle) - which has blossomed to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mom created a warm and loving home, her twinkle and smile would light up your day. She was an avid bowler and sharp card player. She volunteered for many years at the Collingwood food bank and was a great supporter of Masonic and Demolay events. She loved her many years of travel, and yearly trips by train, plane or car, to enjoy time with her Sask. family.
Mom fought a valiant, and life long battle with COPD and reached many goals despite the handicap. Mom was deeply and dearly loved by many and will be missed by all. Our world will be an empty place without her. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr EJ Dubland and also to her caregivers at Drake Medox for their care and kindness.
Her funeral service will be held at Wilson Heights United Church, 1634 41st Avenue, Vancouver, BC on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 1:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The BC Lung Association.
