- With love and sadness for Anna Ebert who passed away on May 17, 2017 in her 94th year. All who knew her would remember her as a loving Oma, wife, and knowledgeable mom. She had a tenacity that saw her through WW 2 and many adventures through her early years. Travelling abroad with a girlfriend and enjoying a 5-year stay in England, where I’m sure she brought her cheeky and playful sense of humour. I’m sure Britain never saw it coming!!! As kids our mother would recall stories of how she and her co-workers would work hard and play hard…sometimes at the expense of some very serious nuns. She was a practical nurse and also worked in diet kitchens in the UK and apparently there was fun to be had, including retrieving a platter of fish from the waste bin after it was realized that the fellow nuns wanted more fish. Mother thought it wasn’t worth any efforts and binned it. Retrieving it, wiping it and re-plattering was quite a feat. I believe hysterical laughter was involved when the diners commented on how tasty the meal was. Mama was something else for sure. The love of our mother’s life was our dad Eduard Ebert. They were 22 years apart in age but made for each other. Dad passed away in 1977. They only had 19 years together but many life-times I’m sure. Going on without him was almost insurmountable for our mother but she eventually did forge on. My sister and I believe they are once again together in what can only be heaven. He probably has his arm around her hip and she, finally smiling again because she has Papa with her.
