A rare life, well done.
After a too-brief visit, Andrew left us suddenly last Friday. A man of expansive vision and extraordinary generosity, he lent to all of us a new way of looking at ourselves.
Andrew’s vast community of friends was drawn in many ways, and always gorgeously. Constantly inventive, a raconteur and bon viveur deluxe, a teller of deep sea-tales (not unlike his father John, the well-known maritime historian), he was most at home in Plumper Cove, the site of his beloved cottage at Keats Island.
He loved the deep powder of Whistler’s glaciers and the Rockies, where he skied, and lived, like a blast. He played the guitar like that too, and then his voice rose above him.
Andrew will be most deeply missed by his wife, Janice, and his wonderful and loving daughters Kaylen and Sasha, and their mother Cheryl.
For the rest of us: The tang of the ocean, the slip of the sea, about boys wandering about in boats all day, and he.
A service in celebration of Andrew will be held this Thursday, July 16th at 12:30 pm at The Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 - West 49th Avenue and Oak Street.
