It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt, Amy Denize Callaway, at the age of 88. Denize passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke. She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Alice Callaway; her brother, Lieutenant Richard Callaway; and her long-time friend and companion, John Bernard (Mickey) McGuire. Denize is survived by her siblings, Alice (Dave) Elzinga; Frank (Jean) Callaway; and Sylvia (David) Grant, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews and close family friends.
Denize was born on a homestead in Donnelly Heights, Alberta and spent her early years in the Peace River country. In 1933 she moved with her family to Edmonton, Alberta so that the Callaway children could complete their education. After graduation from Victoria High School in 1942, Denize attended business college and started her future career in the business world. In 1951, Denize moved to Vancouver to see what challenges and opportunities the West Coast had to offer. In 1954 she started her own business, Tri-C Secretarial Services, which provided innovative secretarial and administrative support to the Vancouver business community. After a successful career as a business-woman, Denize retired to her property outside of Pemberton, BC. Surrounded by beautiful vistas and caring neighbors, Denize enjoyed a very active and happy retirement, remaining deeply involved in her community and her church. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Family members and close friends have many fond memories of time spent at Aunty Dee’s ‘ranch’ – riding horses, playing cards, working in the garden and sharing in laughter and good food.
Denize’s warm and welcoming smile, her kindness, her quiet strength and her generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
