Al passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 6th 2011.  He was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan  on September 28th, 1927.  The family moved to New Westminster in 1943. Al leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years Esther, his daughters Sandra (Hank) and Susan.  He was a proud Poppa to Jennifer, Bradley, Mariah, Laura, Paul and a great grandfather to Lincoln.  Al was one of 7 boys and is also survived by his brothers Ed (Mimi), Dennis (Hilda) and sisters-in-law Allie and Nora Martin.  He is predeceased by his parents Anton and Clara and  his brothers Leander, Ray (Peggy), Walt (Louise), Ohmer and sister-in-law Claire.  He is fondly remembered by numerous nephews and nieces in BC and the Maetche relatives in Alberta.   Al’s quick wit was legendary and his “skills“ with electricity earned him the name “Sparky.”  He viewed life with a calm demeanour and an ever-present twinkle in his eye.  Prayers will be on June 10th at 6:30pm at Columbia Bowell Funeral Chapel 219 - 6th Street New Westminster. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on June 11th, 2011 at 12 noon at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 330 Royal Avenue, New Westminster, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation in Al’s name would be greatly appreciated.
